Takutai's Wonderful Westport Camp!

We did the Seal Colony walk at Tauranga Bay. We saw approximately 20 seals resting on the rocks. We met Pete the DOC ranger and he taught us all about the foot prints of the Blue Penguins. We tried to find different plants, birds and sea creatures.

That afternoon we got a chance to swim in the Pulse Energy Swimming pool in Westport. It was really cool because it was super warm and we had floating devices we could play with. There was no one else in the entire building, so we had it all to ourselves.

We visited a massive cave in Charleston. Half way through the cave was this beautiful waterfall falling through the roof like a chandelier falling down.

This is a photo of some stunning stalactite and stalagmites we saw in the cave. We think they look like the teeth from a dinosaur. They are over 100,000 years old!

Shantytown Trip - Science day

On Tuesday Takutai class got to visit Shantytown to enjoy a science day. We were learning all about forces (push and pull) and simple machines that make our work and lives easier. This picture is of us in front of the steam train we got to ride on. It was Hahle's first time on a train and he got to do the return journey inside the engine with the train driver. It was very cool!

Analysing our Enviroschool data

This graph is showing me that neutral was selected more than the other responses.
This shows me that most people are not sure if we are doing a good job.
This tells me that we might need to make more of an effort to look after our environment.
About 38 people agree that we are doing a good job.
This pie chart shows me that 62.1% want to have a nude food day.
A quarter (25%) said maybe. Only 12.9% said no.
Therefore this shows me that we should introduce a nude food day.
We would need to check with Miss Hygate if this is ok and organise it.
We may need to put a message on Seesaw and the newsletter.

Poem of Nature

Poem of nature
The trees are flowing,
the grass is growing,
the wind is blowing,
the sea is going,
the tides are lowering.

Plastic Free Environment/World

Plastic free environment / World

The Great Pacific garbage patch is a mass of floating rubbish in the Pacific Ocean.

The text that we read was about a school wanting to reduce the amount of rubbish in the ocean.

The garbage patch is 6 times the size of New Zealand It is made up of 80 million kgs of plastic.

Birds die because of pollution and the seas.

Furry Seals

Searching for our Tuhi mai tuhi atu school!

Today Takutai class searched for our Tuhi mai tuhi atu school in Auckland. We looked on google maps and selected the satellite picture. We noticed that their school is similar to ours, we are both small and it looks like they are near a river. They have a lot more trees than us - we are quite jealous of that! We love to climb and we only have one tree to do this in, we call it Harmony. We are hoping to plant more trees in the future.

Twinkling Stars

Twinkling stars

I’m in the garden and I see the stars winking at me in the starry sky the moon comes out from behind a fluffy cloud.

The moon, shined so bright it nearly blinded me. It started to rain very lightly I felt it touch me, it felt coldish I saw eight stars in a little groop. I heard some rustling I thought that it was a bird I looked but it was a weka I took a step I scared it.
